Fen Ditton Community Primary School is proud to maintain its Ofsted ‘Good’ rating

Staff and pupils at Fen Ditton Community Primary School are celebrating a consecutive ‘Good’ Ofsted rating, following its most recent inspection.

The school, which is part of Anglian Learning, was praised for its ‘broad curriculum’ and the ‘wide range of opportunities’ available to pupils. Inspectors stated that the school continues to be Good – a judgement that it has now consistently held since 2016.

The report, which was published following the school’s latest visit, stated: “Pupils enjoy their learning at Fen Ditton Primary School. They take great delight in learning new things and sharing their ideas. Pupils talk enthusiastically about the books they read and the different authors that interest them.”

The school was praised for providing pupils with a safe and supportive learning environment, with the report stating: “Pupils at this school feel safe and well cared for. Pupils are confident that if they have any worries, they can tell their teachers who will help them. Pupils appreciate the different mindfulness and breathing exercises that they are taught, to help them feel calm.”

The report added: “Most pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities thrive at the school. Leaders have ensured that pupils receive the right help, at the right time, closely matched to their needs.”

Headteacher at Fen Ditton Community Primary School, Mark Askew, said: “We are thrilled with the results of our most recent Ofsted Inspection.

“I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of my colleagues, both in our school and across Anglian Learning. They are committed to providing an enjoyable, supportive and encouraging environment in which our children are able to thrive.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate everyone for their support in making the school the very best it can be – I can’t wait to build on this success further.”

Staff at the school were praised for their devotion to their roles. The report stated: “School leaders know pupils and their families well. They are tenacious in seeking out the support needed to ensure that everyone is helped to stay safe.”

“At playtime, everyone enjoys the array of equipment and sports organised by leaders and older pupils. Older pupils are eager to help the younger pupils and are proud to be ‘key stage 2 angels’ at breaktime and lunchtime.”

Inspectors, who visited the academy on 26th and 27th April 2022, stated that: “The strengths in the school’s curriculum start in the early years. Adults form positive relationships quickly with children and know them well.”

The arrangements for safeguarding at the school were reported as being effective with the report stating: “Leaders have developed a culture of safeguarding throughout the school. Pupils learn how to stay safe, including online. They feel safe in school. They are confident that their teachers will help them with any concerns.”

The extra-curricular trips and opportunities were also highlighted as a strength in the report. The report stated: “Leaders plan and deliver a wide range of opportunities to broaden the experiences of pupils. This includes instrumental tuition, inter-school sports, trips, visits, and visitors.”

Jonathan Culpin, CEO of Anglian Learning, said: “This well-deserved ‘Good’ Ofsted rating is recognition of the hard work and commitment of Mark Askew and all of his staff at Fen Ditton Community Primary School. I am pleased that the numerous opportunities available at the school for pupils has been highlighted, supporting our vision for dynamic and empowered learners who thrive and lead in their communities. As we continue to work together, we are excited for the future.”

Inspectors suggested two areas for improvement in the report, including adding more depth into some areas of curriculum planning and reviewing systems and processes for storing information.
